Audio-Technica Announces New Luxurious ATH-AWKG Headphones

Hand-assembled in Tokyo with a unique kurogaki wooden housing, the  Audio-Technica ATH-AWKG headphones are stunning to behold.

Kurogaki is persimmon wood, which has black, internal ink-like patterns and a challenging drying process. This wood is used for the ATH-AWKG's earcups, with the lacquer finish hand-rubbed on by skilled craftsmen. Audio-Technica says that the wood used has unique properties that “contribute to exceptional sound quality.”

The headphone arms are made of lightweight, rigid magnesium alloy and are angled to ensure the best possible fit and a good earcup seal. The earpads and headband are covered in smooth sheepskin for comfort and durability, and an interchangeable pair of ZMF Universe Hybrid earpads is included in the box.

Inside are 53mm drivers with the same German Permendur magnetic circuitry used in the ATH-ADX5000, which ensures that the ATH-AWKT headphones provide a spacious soundstage and plenty of power.

The drivers have a titanium flange and a 6N-OFC (high-purity, oxygen-free copper) voice coil for precise diaphragm movement and optimal signal transfer. The headphones also use Audio-Technica's DADS (Double Air Damping System), which divides the housing structure into two separate acoustic chambers for a smooth, accurate bass response.

There are A2DC (Audio Designed Detachable Coaxial) jacks for secure connection, and two 3m detachable fabric-braided cables are included: one 6.3mm (1/4-inch) gold-plated stereo plug and one with a 4-pin XLR-M balanced connector.

These are all stored in a stunning storage box decorated with the same kurogaki wood used for the headphones.

The Audio-Technica ATH-AWKG headphones are now available in limited quantities with an RRP of £3,000.
