The UHZ55 laser projector boasts “true 4K” alongside HDR support via the HDR10 and HLG formats. Optoma also used the hotel rooms at the Bristol Hi-Fi Show to its advantage to showcase the projector's 3000 lumens of brightness and picture while also demonstrating its claimed 2,500,000:1 contrast ratio. With light still streaming through the curtains, the UHZ55 proved potent enough to throw an impressively sharp and vibrant picture.

Optoma says much of this is down to Texas Instruments' DLP technology and Optoma's DuraCore laser technology. We're assured that this is good for up to 30,000 hours of maintenance-free use.

A trio of HDMI 2.0 sockets offer enough connectivity for your audio equipment (Dolby Atmos soundbar or AVR if you need more than the onboard 2x10W speakers) thanks to eARC on one, then your Blu-ray player and gaming console on the others. Although 4K/120Hz, ALLM and VRR are absent from the spec sheet, Optoma does state that the UHZ55 features an enhanced gaming mode with a 16.7ms response time in 4K at 60Hz and 4ms in 1080P at 240Hz.

Don't do discs? Well, there's an Android-based streaming module built-in that Optoma tells us includes a Marketplace app for downloading streaming apps such as Prime Video and Spotify. Moreover, Netflix is included, which is certainly noteworthy. Furthermore, if you're also going wireless, this new projector is rocking WiSA HT Certification, enabling it to communicate with similarly certified wireless audio devices. Meanwhile, Dual-Band 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz WiFi complete the projector's wireless skills.

Naturally, any 'smart' device needs voice assistant functionality, and the UHZ55 ticks off Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant compatibility, allowing you to hook up an Echo or Nest speaker (respectively) to the projector.

The Optoma UHZ55 is scheduled for a March release priced at £2,000.
